Birth and Early Life

Avery DeWitt Johnson was born on March 25, 1965. Hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana, his basketball journey began at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Standing at 5'11", Johnson played the point guard position with exceptional skill.

NBA Career

After graduating college, Johnson entered the NBA in 1988, drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics. He played for various teams throughout his career, including the Golden State Warriors, Denver Nuggets, San Antonio Spurs, and Dallas Mavericks.

Coaching Accomplishments

Following his playing days, Johnson transitioned to coaching in 2002. He led the Dallas Mavericks to the 2006 NBA Finals, establishing himself as one of the league's top coaches. Johnson later coached the New Jersey Nets and Brooklyn Nets.
